ONTIME WINS GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION CONTRACT FOR MERCEDES-BENZ SLR MCLAREN

Ontime Automotive has won the global distribution contract for the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren,. The cars will be delivered in covered transporters to destinations in the UK and continental Europe, and shipped in sea freight containers to the rest of the world.
Ontime, which provides bespoke vehicle preparation and distribution services for the industry’s prestige manufacturers, has already collected several of the carbon-fibre bodied supercars from the McLaren plant at Woking, Surrey. Prior to despatch, the customer viewing cars will be given final pre-delivery checks at Ontime’s temperature-controlled, humidity-regulated storage facility at Fenny Compton, Warwickshire.
James Miller, Manager Logistics Passenger Cars International, DaimlerChrysler AG, commented: “Distributing a premium sportscar like the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren requires exceptionally careful handling, with the same high level of efficiency that you’d expect of a volume operation. With a price tag of Ł275,000, the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren celebrates the partnership between Mercedes-Benz and McLaren in Formula One. Its 5.4-litre supercharged engine develops 626 bhp and catapults the car from 0-60 mph in just 3.8 seconds before reaching a top speed of 208 mph.

Ontime Automotive moves 700,000 vehicles a year, with operations ranging from high-volume distribution to individually driven vehicles, and is the owner-operator of Europe’s largest covered car transporter fleet.
With carrying capacities of two to six cars, the covered fleet currently numbers 125. Ontime runs a further 230 open transporters, with capacities of up to nine vehicles for volume distribution, and is the owner-operator of six Ro-Ro (roll-on, roll-off) vessels.
Responding to trends in the premium sports car market, recent investments in the specialist transporter fleet include engineering modifications to accommodate lower, wider cars.
